Plot - J.A.K.Q. Dengekitai

The second Sentai series is called J.A.K.Q. Dengekitai. From April 9 until December 24, 1977, it was broadcast. The JAKQ team had just four members when it first began, unlike the majority of other Sentai, which have teams of three or five members.

In episode 23, a fifth member (Big One) made an appearance. With only 35 episodes, J.A.K.Q. Dengekitai was not nearly as popular as Gorenger. The second and final Sentai designed by Shotaro Ishinomori is J.A.K.Q. Dengekitai.

JAKQ is an acronym for Jack, Ace, King, and Queen. The names of the J.A.K.Q. squad members are taken from decks of cards. They call their boss “Joker” in code.

J.A.K.Q. Dengekitai doesn’t feature any gigantic monsters or robots to face up against. The Crimers are masked troops who help the human-sized monsters used by CRIME. Devil Sharks are CRIME’s bat-winged aeroplanes.

JAKQ was one of just two Sentai programmes to use the Sentai moniker exclusively, and it was also the last. The term “Super Sentai” was then employed.

The series received a 9.8% average rating.

Plot J.A.K.Q. Dengekitai

The “Crime Czar” of a vast criminal organisation called “Crime” is Iron Claw. To become the most powerful mafia organisation in the world, “Crime” has a network of affluent and powerful supporters and employs an army of faceless, leather-masked thugs (Crimers) and cyborg/robot assassins.

INTERPOL establishes a dedicated team to lead the pursuit of criminals in order to counter this threat. ISSIS (International Science Special Investigation Squad [Kokusai Kagaku Tokusou Tai]), a New York-based organisation, starts to assemble its forces globally to combat crime.

Kujirai Daisuke, the head of the ISSIS branch in Tokyo, suggests a risky experiment to help his forces in Japan. Under the alias “Joker,” he selects four young people to participate in his cyborg enhancement project as test subjects: the Olympic Gold Medalist and multi-sport athlete Goro Sakurai, the disgraced Junior Walter Weight Champion boxer Ryu Higashi, the critically injured Police Officer Karen Mizuki, and the cryogenically preserved oceanographer Bunta Daichi.

The four young people begin their goal to eradicate crime as the crime-fighting group known as “JAKQ – Dengekitai” after undergoing surgical alteration, receiving diverse energy manipulation powers, and receiving bionic augmentation. In order to boost their numbers and intensify their fight against Crime, the team later includes uber-cyborg and master of disguise Sokichi Banba.
